As 2023 draws to a close, Indian equity markets wrap up the year with impressive double-digit gains. The BSE Sensex recorded a notable surge of 18.10%, while the NSE Nifty saw a robust climb of 19.42% on a year-to-date basis. However, the final trading session witnessed a slight downturn, with the Sensex slipping by 170 points (0.23%) to close at 72,240, and the Nifty falling by 47 points (0.22%) to end at 21,731. Ajit Mishra, SVP – Technical Research at Religare Broking, highlighted a modest correction on the last trading day, attributing it to a mixed sectoral trend.

Looking ahead to 2024, investors are anticipating a resilient performance from the Nifty, placing emphasis on stock selection and showing a preference for index majors.
